Children from churches in Brazil and the USA will be assigned by our staff to be pen pals for a year.
They will get to learn about new cultures and build their Christian communities.
The Dream :
When the children write letters to each other, they can experience another culture and Christian community without leaving their homes. Giving the children an opportunity to have a friend in another part of the world will strengthen the global Christian community and develop lasting connections with the dreamers who will be part of the project. In addition to the children, the pastors and the leadership of the churches will also be allowed to write letters sharing their experiences with one another.
How it Works:
Students in our partnered churches can sign up to be dreamers.
The Sharing Dreams team will pair them with another dreamer of the same age and gender to write a letter to. Dreamers will write letters on fun topics provided by the team. These letters will be translated,
and the original and the translation will be sent to their new
friends in another country.
The Dreamers :
The “Dreamers” will be the students who are part of the project, they will be from 8-12 years old. The Dreamers will commit to a year of sharing dreams and will get to write or receive a letter every month.
Prayer:
One of the project's main goals is encouraging children to pray for each other. They will share prayer requests in every letter and be asked to pray for their new friend for five minutes every day.
The Sharing Dreams team will go to the churches part of Dreamers Connect and have a day where they get to experience the country they are writing letters to! In Brazil, they will have an American Day. In the USA, a Brazilian day. We will rent inflatables, and have different games and food from both countries. We will offer basic lessons in geography and history. Our staff will teach the kids basic skills to communicate in English and Portuguese. The team will also take the time to share the gospel in a fun way!
The Sharing Dreams Day will be an event for the community where the church is located. Students who are not part of the project will be able to attend these events as well; this will be an opportunity for them to see what the project is about and hear about Jesus!
Throughout the year, the Sharing Dreams team will collect school supplies and hold
special fundraisers to provide for children in need of assistance.
